Bowen Island isn’t just where The Barnfield Suites & Cedarwood Elements live — it’s who we are.
Supporting local businesses, makers, growers, and practitioners is one of our deepest commitments. In fact, over 20% of our net revenue goes directly back into Bowen Island businesses. That isn’t accidental — it’s intentional.
We believe a thriving local economy creates a thriving community. That’s why we build strategic partnerships with Bowen Island–based businesses to offer complementary, value-added products and services that feel authentically rooted here. We engage local tradespeople and builders. We collaborate with qualified wellness advisors and practitioners. We co-create unique guest experiences with local entrepreneurs. And we actively cross-promote and refer guests to other island businesses because we genuinely want everyone to grow together.
By sourcing goods and services locally, we also reduce transportation impacts while strengthening community resilience. We lean on local expertise to ensure everything we offer aligns with Bowen Island’s values, standards, and spirit.

When guests stay with us, they’re not just visiting The Barnfield Suites and Cedarwood Elements — they’re stepping into a vibrant, creative, and connected island ecosystem. We’re simply proud to help them discover it.
Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship
The Barnfield Suites and Cedarwood Elements were designed with deep respect for nature, community, and the First Nations land on which we are grateful to operate. Sustainability isn’t a marketing idea for us — it’s a guiding principle behind every decision we make.
We prioritize locally sourced, non-toxic products wherever possible. By sourcing close to home, we reduce transportation emissions while supporting our community. Our aesthetic reflects a minimalist Scandinavian design philosophy, using natural materials and low-impact finishes that feel calm, intentional, and enduring rather than disposable.
We maintain a zero single-use plastics policy, carefully selecting reusable, refillable, and sustainable alternatives. Our operations are thoughtfully powered by propane and Cove Bay Water, and we are planning to collect rainwater to further reduce strain on local resources.
Environmental stewardship also means accessibility and inclusion. We proudly offer community access rates for Bowen locals, ensuring the space remains connected to the people who call this island home.
For us, stewardship means thinking long-term — protecting what makes Bowen Island extraordinary while contributing positively to its future. Every partnership, every sourcing decision, every design choice is made with the intention of creating something that is not only beautiful and restorative, but responsible.
The Barnfield Suites and Cedarwood Elements exist because we love this place. Supporting local and caring for the environment is simply our way of giving back to the island that gives us so much.

Why “Buy Canadian” Matters to Us
By choosing Canadian partners, we reduce our carbon footprint, support fair labor practices, and invest in the creative economy of our home. Whether it’s a chocolate truffle from Cocoa West or a mattress from Casper Canada, your stay directly contributes to the thriving ecosystem of Canadian entrepreneurs.
