At Cedarwood, each contrast therapy session is a 90-minute, self-guided journey through heat, cold, and restorative stillness.
Every step is carefully curated to maximize benefits, honor the body’s natural rhythm, and immerse you in the serene, private Bowen Island retreat environment.
Cedarwood Contrast Therapy Experience Overview
Outdoor Shower (10 seconds)
Begin with a cold water bucket shower, invigorating the body, awakening the senses, and preparing you for the sauna. This quick refresh stimulates circulation and enhances presence and mindfulness.
Sauna (10–15 minutes)
Step into our electric cedar barrel sauna, where gentle heat relaxes muscles and mobilizes toxins naturally. The experience is enhanced by aromatherapy, natural light, and the scent of cedar, creating a calming yet energizing environment.
Cold Plunge or Warm Soak (1–5 minutes)
Cold Plunge: Stainless steel tub cooled for an invigorating immersion, boosting circulation, immunity, and recovery.
Warm Soak: For guests preferring gentle temperatures, the same tub can be kept warm, supporting relaxation, mindful reflection, and gradual body acclimation.
Relaxation & Reset (10–15 minutes)
After heat and cold, guests rest in nature-focused spaces: fireside lounge, hammock, or quiet seating areas. This phase allows the body to absorb benefits, regulate the nervous system, and integrate the contrast therapy experience.
Repeat Contrast Therapy Circuit
Guests are invited to move through the circuit at their own rhythm, cycling through heat, cold, and relaxation. Each pass naturally deepens circulation, recovery, and mindful presence.
